Exemptions for historic vehicles in the ITV
According to the Historic Vehicle Regulations, more specifically, in the agreements on historic vehicles adopted by the Working Group of the Sectoral Conference of Industry and SMEs. REVISION June 2, 2021, it is said that:
“In all cases, the reason for requesting an exemption from the conditions required in the technical inspection must be technically justified, taking into account that it is not appropriate to include as exemptions those that are already contemplated by seniority in the ITV stations' own Procedure Manual. In addition, it will be necessary to consider the possible technical conditions required of the vehicle in accordance with Spanish regulations and depending on the date of its first putting into service.
Some examples of possible exemptions would be:
In the case of tractor heads, exemption from verification of the fifth wheel coupling device.
In general, the inspection of the steering, suspension and transmission systems and elements of those vehicles manufactured before 1950 will be carried out without using equipment that produces vibrations or induced movements.
The inspection of the braking system of those vehicles that have thin metal or wooden spoke rims will be carried out using a decelerometer in a track test or with other appropriate devices.
The inspection of the braking system of those vehicles that have brakes operated by wire rope or rod will be carried out using a decelerometer in track testing or with other appropriate devices.
The exemption from having a speed limiter is not applicable for vehicles that, due to their characteristics, must have them.”
A common example in historical vehicles
In historic vehicles of USA origin, the rear steering devices are usually red. In these cases, they should be exempt from having to wear them in auto yellow. Otherwise, the original character and conservation of the vehicle would be lost.
